Just bend the feeling gauge! If you gotta grind it narrower-do so.
To sync carbs: #3 is the fixed one. Set #4 to match 3. set 1+2 to match each other. Now set 1+2 to match 3+4 using the middle screw.
A $3 test light is all you need to do the points-or just solder wires to a spare (known good) light bulb.
